Tynkkylän Lomaniemi is located on the shores of Pihlajavesi, Lake Saimaa, in the headland Mökinniemi, which is part of Vuoriniemi in Punkaharju. The place was settled already centuries ago when people lived in dim, chimneyless huts living off the bounty of nature and the pure waters of Lake Saimaa.
Lomaniemi continues to enjoy the same things, but its dwellings have evolved from the olden days. Luxurious villas with all the mod cons, not to mention the scenic environment, provide remarkable experiences. Indeed, the environment around Lomaniemi with its islands, headlands and bays is home to the endangered Saimaa ringed seal.

In 1843, Tsar Nicholas I ordered a ranger’s lodge, complete with rooms for travellers, to be built. Over the decades, the building was transformed into the internationally renowned State Hotel Punkaharju, the oldest state hotel in the country. The hotel’s story now continues under the name Hotel Punkaharju.
Hotel Punkaharju boasts 11 unique and comfortable rooms, renovated in a way that pays homage to the hotel’s decades-long history and the beauty of the building and its natural surroundings. Our guests also have access to a lakeside sauna, the boat jetties, a tennis court, a beach, and a shop selling local products.
Our forest cabins are located in the vicinity of the hotel, nestled in the woods by Punkaharju ridge. These cabins, Finland’s oldest cottages designed as guesthouses, have been renovated to offer comfortable accommodation. Spending a night in any of these 12 rooms set amidst majestic pines, on a beautiful, protected peninsula, makes for a memorable experience.
